With advent of new tool, like web 2.0, its advantages are heavily touted by those who are proponents of Web 2.0 but there are also those who feel that this technology will do more harm than good. It is legitimate that proponents put forward the potential use of Web 2.0 as an educational tool, but my acceptance to it is mitigated.
Indeed, I concur with the article when it says “A social network is not necessarily a place where educational type of learning will take place most of the time although it can contain info related to an educational type of learning in which one or more persons in that network of friends are part of“, since a social network will not necessarily promotes the essence of education and may deviate from the objectives of education, even though it is a versatile tool that can be used to reach a wide audience. Moreover, Web 2.0 was not created with the main objective to be an educational tool.
However, I disagree when it is pointed out that A classroom whether physical or online where participants can be with each other and communicate to each other is already a social network. It does not necessarily mean that it will expand” as in my opinion, social networks expand networking efficiently amongst peers and classmates.

Moreover, the last paragraph states “it depends on what the network talks about, what they share and what they are doing in that network to shape learning” for a social network to contribute to the educational process. When I look at the millions of social network subscribers, what do they really talk about on the network…most of them about fussy things rather than doing real core learning!

So, can social network be really the educational tool that its proponents pretend to!
